Chief Niski’s Advice to Protesters in Colorado Springs

CSPD

In light of events that have taken place over the last week, many are unaware as to what actions CSPD will take in response to protests. The team at COSO sat down with Colorado Springs Police Chief Vince Niski today to discuss our event on Saturday and protesting in Colorado Springs.

He informed us that at this point the police have been instructed to arrest anyone obstructing traffic (unless there are permits, etc.). He encouraged protestors to walk the sidewalk in numbers and fill the corners of intersections while at crossways. We look forward to seeing the community stand together while voicing our First Amendment rights safely and peacefully.

We want to ensure that the community is aware of everything we’ve been told and understand the potential outcome of blocking streets. We will be informing everyone we have access to and sharing this information on our platforms.

We did talk to Chief Niski about making a public statement condemning the threats against protestors and those who are saying they will take action if the police don’t. He told us he would do so. As the media reported today, CSPD is looking into the death threat made on the live feed.
